About the Architectural Applications of Clay/Glass
Introducing his new patented discovery: fusible clay and glass
Boise Airport Wall
Architecture and art have one vital commonality: innovation. The work that stands out, that is recognized and acclaimed, is the work that dares a new direction.

Two of the most common mediums in art are clay and glass, each with their own unique attributes. However, they have never been able to be combined into one harmonious medium do to their vastly different chemical configurations. For the past 13 years, John’s dream has been to overcome this chemical implausibility of fusing glass directly with clay; a feat that has never been achieved. After 13 years of testing, John recently invented the world’s first glass compatible clay body.

This invention of a glass compatible clay body translates into a new artistic medium that cannot be replicated, mimicked, or copied by any other artist or manufacturer in the world. It is unique to John and his imagination.

The fusion of the two together brings out the best qualities of each material and allows them to balance and accent each other. The glass is transparent and appears to be fluid where as the clay offers sculptural and structural qualities to a finished piece.

Thick layers of glass add an intensity and color depth that cannot be achieved by clay and glaze alone. The juxtaposition of clay elements, within or projecting through the glass, show off the ability of the clay to hold its shape, texture, and form. The glass flows over, through, and around the clay, while the incorporation of clay directly into the glass allows the light to refract differently through different areas of the sculpture and gives the sculpture a wide variance in textures across its surface.

This transcribes into a copious array of possibilities of application into architecture. Fusible clay and glass can be used to construct anything from wall panels, windows, tile, backsplashes, and decorative sculptures. The possibilities are really only limited by your imagination
